Breakfast Bagel Crumble

Ahh, Wednesday. A fine day of the week if I do say so myself. Let us bask in this particular "hump day" by looking at something elaborate and refined: cooking. Quite jolly fun this entry will be today, chaps.[1]

*sips tea and dons a monocle*

CURRENT MUSIC:
30 Seconds to Mars - "Closer to the Edge"
This Is War

I love 30 Seconds to Mars' sound. A personal favorite of mine, the alternative rock band has been in my favorites list for quite a few years now.

Anyway, "Closer to the Edge" has that perfect "God, today's going to be a great day!" sound to it. Which is excellent - I feel like today's going to be rather swell.

Hoobastank - "Born to Lead"
Every Man for Himself

It's been said by some of my friends that if I were to hone my talents and abilities with finely-tuned craftsmanship, I'd be an effective leader. While I'm still working on building the self-confidence (and more importantly, the sleep patterns necessary) to actually perform like one, I'd like to think that I'm getting there. Albeit in a slow and clumsy fashion.

Anyway, "Born to Lead" has that breakaway sound in it - the kind I'd expect when some talented individual(s) who, after a long period of being repressed, break out of their cell(s) and overwhelm those who prevented them from making anything of themselves.

Journey - "Don't Stop Believin'"
Escape

I know, I know - Journey's signature song should be listened to in a romantic setting of sorts (at least that's what happens in TV shows). However, it's one of those pieces you can't help but listen to anyway.

Take today for example - I'm not feeling particularly romantic at all, and yet when WinAmp shuffled its way to this song, I couldn't help but listen to it and sing along. Yay!

Frank Klepacki - "Destroy"
Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2 Original Soundtrack

One of my favorite pieces from Red Alert 2's industrial-driven soundtrack. Packing a fast-paced aggression the rest of the soundtrack refrains from using, it's no wonder I love staging assaults when this plays. If this is heard blaring anywhere around me, I'll probably be working diligently on a task (and often, it might come with a quick adrenaline surge).

"Whether it's the best of times or the worst of times, it's the only time we've got."
- Art Buchwald

Yes, it is. And seeing as how that's the case, we might as well make the most of it. Quite true, especially in these modern times when everyone's all zipping around.

HELLO, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN! Thank you for dropping by today to look at today's entry in The White Knight Chronicles. There's lots of time and so little to talk about, so let's get... started...

*clears throat* Strike that; reverse it. Yay, dyslexia! *rolls eyes in amusement*

Breakfast Awesomeness
(Hearty, delicious, simple and... well, breakfasty.)

So I decided to have myself a scrumptious and simple breakfast earlier this morning when I woke up. Using what ingredients I had available, I was able to make a rudimentary meal that as of now is still keeping me fueled and ready to conquer the day.

I got hungry before I realized I wanted to blog about my culinary creation.
While that seems a tad... barbaric... it also inadvertently made the photo scrumptious.  Hehehe.
I present to you... the breakfast bagel crumble! Name's not the best, but eh. For the confectionery chefs out there, the name has nothing to do with the traditional (British) definition of a crumble (that is to say, this ain't dessert). It's a good meal that will definitely keep you sated for a few hours - especially when coupled with a nice drink to go along with it. The greatest part is that it didn't take that long to make this! Maybe like 10 to 20 minutes for preparation and cooking.

And now a fun treat for you: the "recipe" for this breakfast bagel crumble![2] I say "recipe" like so because whenever I cook, I just go by instinct. By this I mean that nothing's measured - I go by gut instinct and throw things in the mix like a mad scientist. It's nice to follow directions and everything, but how would we learn anything if we didn't trust our own abilities and went with what our hearts thought was right? (Oh, geez; here I am sounding romantic again. I can't help it.)

A-Anyway... HERE. The "recipe!"

DISCLAIMER: The White Knight made this stuff out of his mind. Granted, there might be similar recipes out there, but as of the posting of this entry he had no idea about them. Regardless, he's not saying he invented any of this this... unless his recipes just so happen to be the first ones out there. If that's the case, then HELL YES. =D

Breakfast Bagel Crumble
(Fruit not present. Sorry.)

EQUIPMENT:[3]
  • oven
  • frying pan
  • toaster (oven)
  • spatula

MATS:[3]
  • bagel (any kind works, but I personally think "onion" or "everything" would do)
  • cream cheese (plain or chive-infused)
  • butter
  • cold cut slices (x9) (preferably 3 slices of 3 different kinds of meat)
  • eggs (x2) (x3 if you looooooove eggs)
  • chopped onion (fresh works best, but that pre-dried stuff works fine, too)
  • Italian dressing (what I perceive most of you to raise your eyebrows at)
  • various herbs & spices (modify for personal preferences)

DIRECTIONS:
1.) Toast Bagel to Preference
Simple directions, really. A toaster oven would be preferential because you can directly monitor your bagel's cooking progress. I prefer a light toasting, where the bagel is very lightly browned and crispy enough to be crispy yet soft enough to still be delectable and easy to chew. Once done, immediately remove it from the toaster and top each slice with cream cheese.

2.) Cook the Meat
Grease up the frying pan with butter (how much you use is up to you) and cook SIX of your cold cut slices in a medium-high heat, adding herbs and spices if desired. Toss three of each of the cooked slices on a bagel slice. The combined heat from the bagel and the meat makes the cream cheese all nice and soft-like.

3.) Cook Up an Omelette
Now that there's a decent amount of meat grease (or what's left of it), it's time to cook the other half of your breakfast bagel crumble. Switch the oven to high heat and crack the eggs into the pan.

Tear up the remaining three cold cut slices into small pieces and toss them into the eggs. Add the chopped onions, Italian dressing (as much as you want) and the herbs and spices (I prefer paprika, black pepper, Italian herbs and some Sriracha sauce.). Mix the whole shebang and break the yolks in the process.

Let it cook for some time (I'd say 30-60 seconds) and mix the eggs with a chopping fashion. Repeat this process of chopping and leaving alone until the eggs are cooked to preference, and then top your bagel slices with a generous helping (don't be afraid to let it overflow).

4.) ENJOY!
Either mash the bagel slices together into an epic sammich or eat it as is. If any eggs fall off, simply eat them with a fork or something.

Now, how's that for a breakfast meal? Delicious, no? Oh, wait. I didn't mention what to drink with this. You're probably going, "Holy shit; this is good, but now I want something to quench my thirst." Well, here's a suggestion:

Mmm... driiiiiiiiiiiiinks. Alcohol optional. *wink*
...orange limeade! Quite simple, really:
  • one part limeade
  • two parts orange juice (preferably with some pulp)
  • a bit of vodka (if you want an alcoholic morning/night)
Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... that's all I have to say about that.

So, if you have a bit of time to whip up some breakfast (because any time is breakfast time), I suggest you try making these things. I guarantee your taste buds will thank you for this delectable delight you'll be whipping up.

Footnotes:

1 ^ [Opening] Now, imagine me sitting down wearing a black tuxedo (complete with the mentioned tea and monocle) while I say that with a British accent. Got the picture in your head? Excellent. My day's getting better because of that. =D

2 ^ [Breakfast Awesomeness] I think I'm going to stick with this as the name until I find something better.

3 ^ [Breakfast Bagel Crumble] Yes, I said "equipment" and "mats." Blame World of Warcraft for that.

So, until the 'morrow, everyone! Here's to a great and fantastic day fueled by awesome food and simplistic cooking! *dons a heroic pose with the spatula*
