Brooding Games

Mind you, I'm not in a bad mood or anything despite what the title may indicate - rather, it's probably the one word that can describe my mind's state at any time.

CURRENT MUSIC:
Michael Giacchino - "Kronos Unveiled"
The Incredibles Original Score

Fans of Pixar and/or Bad Robot movies probably recognize this guy's work. From Up to Star Trek, I have to say his scores are pretty good.

Back to "Kronos Unveiled." It just builds up in a fashion that slowly gives you the creeps. As it was used in perfect fashion in the movie's "finding out the horrible truth" sequence (most movies have one), I have to cite this as a track that's worthy to mull things over - especially if you're on the verge of a breakthrough.

Evening, readers. Like I said, I'd be posting more about this weird "JOSH BLANCO vs. THE WORLD" thing I talked about last week. The idea to do this was (as mentioned before) inspired partly by the famed chess game Kasparov vs. the World. At the same time, though, my mind also played an important part

I'm always thinking, even in rest. Half the time I do something, it's due to reflexive impulse, and only rarely does it become a successful maneuver. However, when I do apply myself to the task at hand, everyone who sees it can tell it's going to be good. In another time and another life, I think I'd make for one killer military tactician - maybe that's why I'm drawn to strategy games and what not.

Backstory digression aside, I think I need to announce a few things in regards to this spiel.

As mentioned before, "JOSH BLANCO vs. THE WORLD" will be a chess game pitting me against... well... the world.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to figure out a workable system that I could use to record all the data and what not, so for the time being, I'm going to have to go against what I said earlier ("I'll come up with ways for us to monitor this and show it on here without all of us having to sign up on some website or download and pick up some old Internet Relay Chat program.") and use Facebook for the time being. I figure that most of my readers at this time are people who have me as a fried on the social networking site already, so it'd be advantageous for them.

Also, in keeping with the whole "my event, my show, 'me first'" motif I've been doing with these personal projects and games, I have hereby decided that I will be playing as White. Some may argue first-turn advantage, but that is yet to be seen. If this little game turns out to be as successful as I hope it'll be, then you readers that will be playing as Black just might turn that into an advantage.

If you need to find me on Facebook, I shouldn't be hard to find. Same profile pic (at least at the time of posting this), so just match the names with the black-and-white pic with a green censor bar.

Now, the game will work as follows.

ON MONDAY, JUNE 13, the game will officially start. At 12:00 PM, I will post my first move.
The world will have 24 hours to debate and vote upon a move to respond with, posting the final decision on Tuesday, June 14 at 12:00 PM.
Upon then, I will reply with my next move 24 hours later, and we'll continue with this pattern until one side achieves checkmate or resigns.

TL;DR? Well, here's the abridged version:

- game begins Monday, June 13 @ 1200 hours
- WHITE: Josh Blanco
- BLACK: the World
- moves to be reported/debated on Facebook
- 24 hours to respond to a move
- all moves will be reported at 1200 hours
- algebraic notation will be used to record and report moves

Start planning, ladies and gentlemen. I can't wait to see what you have in store for me...
