Josh D. "Whitey" Blanco
When I think of poetry
I see it as a subtle science
an alchemic arrangement of words
terms that transcend literal meaning
given the breath of life
by the reader's voice
This voice is one of sorrow and hope
yells with exuberance, cries with sorrow
breathing, whispering, shouting, embracing,
transmuting letters into beauty, silence into bliss
When I think of poetry
it slowly drips out of my mind
like a stream to a river
and like a river to ocean
it trickles, pours, flows, and roars
and crashes its way to the page
This page allows my ideas to rest
anchors my spirit's demand
to throw a torrent of thought
into a lake of lined, paper freedom
When I think of poetry,
I see you, I see me
I see a flux capacitor
and a souped-up De Lorean
jumping from epoch to epoch
taking us 'long for the ride
When I think of poetry,
I see it as a subtle science
an alchemic arrangement of words
with poetry we genuinely possess
our own Back to the Future tale
relive the past, share the present, shape the future
When I think of poetry, we become mythical alchemists
transmuting letters into beauty, silence into bliss
